A former National Convention Party parliamentarian for
Sandu constituency Alhagie K. Touray alias 'A.K
Touray' passed away at his hospital bed at Kololi
Clinic on Friday April 26.

A K Touray was said to be suffering from malaria,
which left him hospitalized at the Kololi Clinic.

The late Alhagie Touray was a prominent NCP
politician, serving as a member of Parliament in the
first republic.

Soon after the 1994 military putsch Alhagie Touray
left for the United States, where he was in the entire
span of the transition period, returning in time to
join the main opposition coalition led by the United
Democratic Party last year. He was reputed to have
been among some veteran politicians responsible for
the growth of the UDP in the Upper River Division.
Touray was said to have been instrumental in crafting
a strategy for the UDP's success in five
constituencies in the last presidential election.

At his funeral many people however paid tribute to his
piety, describing him as a noble Muslim, who
demonstrated virtues like patience, righteousness and
good neighbourliness.

The Imam of Tallinding Saja Fatty, Ousainou Darboe,
Kemeseng Jammeh and other members of the community
also extolled the late politician's life as a true
citizen of The Gambia and a Muslim who held steadfast
to the Islamic faith. Touray who was laid to rest at
the Tallinding cemetery on Friday 26 April is
survived by two wives and many children.
