The US government has hailed President Yoweri Museveni and South African leader, Thabo Mbeki for their untiring efforts to bring peace in the war-torn Burundi.
US State Department, spokesperson Richard Boucher called on one of the rebel groups in Burundi, the National Liberation Front to join in the peace process.
"The United States welcomes the signing in Pretoria, on October 8 and November 2, of protocols on power sharing between the National Council for the Defence of Democracy/Front for the Defence of Democracy," Boucher said in a report contained in the Washington File on Friday.
"we are grateful to South African President Thabo Mbeki and deputy Jacob Nzuma for facilitating the conclusion of the Protocols on power sharing. We also thank Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni and Tanzania President Benjamin Mkapa for their untiring efforts on behalf of the Burundi peace process," he said.
