That Jammeh could deny justice to the families and victims of that brutal massacre can only mean one thing: he ordered the soldiers to open fire on the students. He could not therefore turn around and punish the soldiers for following his orders. But as P.K. Jarjue rightly reiterates, the murders of these innocent children have not and will never be forgotten. History written in ink might be erased by the passage of time. History written in blood, particularly the blood of innocents, can never be erased by the passage of time. Long after Jammeh is gone, long after we all are gone, people will remember the brutality of the Jammeh regime on the fateful dates of July 10 and 11, 2000. The court of history will pass judgment upon the murderers of those innocent souls. And on the Day of Judgment, they shall be asked to explain why they unjustly took lives that they did not and could not create. Take heed Mr. Jammeh: there will be a Day of Judgment. There has to be.
