I suppose you got into the religion for the love of it? You had no choice in
the matter (asuming you were born into it) as your parents decided for you.
When you leave one religion for another or otherwise, it is either for
personal reasons or by coercion. So what's the big deal?

I agree with those voices that advocate appointments based on merit. Of
course, political appointments for the most part involves those aspects that
the puritans in our midst will unfortunately may have to live with. This is
true for all other nations although enlightened nations usually seek out
individuals capable of handling the position they are appointed to.
