Mr Carrick:
I think I speak for the entire student body and staff of Armitage School,
both former and present, when I say thank you for your tireless efforts in
fostering the link between our two schools. And between The Gambia and Great
Britain as manifested by an article in the Monday issue of the Daily
Observer below.

QUEEN ELIZABETH CROWNS GAMBIA

The British monarch, Queen Elizabeth, honoured The Gambia February 28 with
her visit to an exhibition on the country by the North Bromsgrove High
School, Worcestershire, UK, which has a link with Armitage Senior Secondary
School. It was said to be her first visit to the Midlands town of
Bromsgrove, where she opened the New Millennium Classroom Block of the North
Bromsgrove High School.

Her Majesty was shown round the exhibition of batik, craft, wood carvings,
photos, drums, and other local Gambian artifacts, most of which were gifts
from Armitage School children to their North Bromsgrove counterparts. The
British monarch was said to have been highly impressed with the Gambian
items on display.

All pupils and staff of the school were dressed in Gambian attire. The Queen
was introduced to David Haffner, vice-principal Armitage School currently
studying in the UK, and Mr Sesay, a former teacher at the school, currently
living in the UK. She shook the hands of both men, who were introduced by
Kevin Peck, headmaster of North Bromsgrove High School, in the presence of
Mike Carrick, the tireless co-ordinator of the link.

The Queen was accompanied by the Lord Lieutenant of the County and his wife,
Sir Thomas and Lady Dunne, and the Duke of Edinburgh. Mr Peck briefed the
Queen on the Armitage - Bromsgrove link, before she signed the visitor's
book and unveiled a plaque on the new building. Her visit being the first to
the town by a ruling monarch was given much prominence in the local and
national media. Mr Carrick led a delegation from Bromsgrove to Armitage last
December on a regular exchange visit.
