Why are some of the top American universities rushing head over heels to
document the growth of Islam in America?

Why is it the fastest growing religion in the United States?

How did Warith Deen Mohammed, son of Elijah Muhammad, lead a bloodless
revolution from the Black Nationalist Movement of his father to the
 Classical Path of Islam?

Who was Russell Webb and how did this Caucasian American Muslim convert
spread the words of Islam around the world in the late 1890s?

How is it that Omar bin Sa`id, an African Muslim enslaved in America,
wrote his own autobiography in Arabic?

Are there really more Muslims in America than in Kuwait, Qatar and Libya
 combined?

Do you know your American Muslim history?

Do you know how it is being documented and why?

Do you know what the "scholars" are saying about YOU?

Are you worried about (mis)representation of Islam in academia?

Were there really Muslims in the New World before Columbus?

One way to begin answering these questions and more is to join us at an
introductory conference on the Growth and Development of Islam in America
March 3 and 4, 2000. Registration is only $15, including the reception.

 Conference Purpose:

The foci of this first-ever multidisciplinary conference of its kind at
Harvard is on the history of Islam in America as well as a case study of
the ongoing development of the largest organized Muslim presence in
America: the ministry of Imam Warith Deen Muhammad and the Muslim American
Society. A dialogue will ensue among scholars and activists,
participants, and religious leaders, all of whom are currently engaged in
carving out a history of Islam in America that continues to inform the
global community about the diversity and rich history of Islam in America.

 Confirmed list of speakers:

 Imam Warith Deen Mohammed
 Dr. Sulayman Nyang
 Dr. Sherman Jackson
 Dr. Aminah McCloud
 Dr. Yvonne Yazbeck Haddad
 Dr. Jane I. Smith
 Dr. Sylviane Diouf

 Special Highlights:
A traveling museum with 140 photos, texts, and documents covering
collections and stories of American Muslims from the 1600s to the 1890s.
The Music of Wilmore Sadiki and much more . . .
