The Office of Naval Research (ONR) has announced its Fiscal Year 2003
(FY03) Young Investigator Program (YIP) to identify and support academic
scientists and engineers who have recently received Ph.D. or equivalent
degrees and who show exceptional promise for doing creative research.
The objectives of this program are to attract outstanding faculty
members to the Department of the Navy's research program, to support
their research, and to encourage their teaching and research careers.

Proposals will be accepted in the following areas:  Electronics;
Mathematical, Computer and Information Sciences; Surveillance,
Communications, and Electronic Combat; Ocean, Atmosphere & Space;
Sensing and Systems; Processes and Prediction; Physical Sciences Science
and Technology; Materials; Mechanics and Energy Conversion; Ship Hull,
Mechanical & Electrical Systems; Human Systems; Medical; and Cognitive,
Neural and Biomolecular.
