OB,

The ballot design I saw on CNN could have been better configured. I can see
it causing some to inadvertently vote for Buchanan instead of Gore. But will
this claim hold in court? We will have to wait and see. Suffice it to say
that it is entirely possible that some older voters did get confused by the
realignment of the punch holes and the names of candidates. It is also
possible, as the old New York woman observed yesterday on CNN, that folks
down in Palm Beach may have been soaking up too much sun resulting in most
suffering from sun stroke. Her solution? Floridians should get out of the
sun so that they can see the punch holes better next time around. The old
lady who appears to be in her 70s had no problem identifying the punch hole
assigned to Gore as did most asked to identify the punch hole associated
with the presidential candidates. Anyway, American democracy is resilient
enough to overcome the Florida fiasco.

Sidi Sanneh
