Mr. Bah,
Those are the big "N." Looking "mean" is an understatement. They're loud and
vicious. The more you ignore them, the more "fun" they have calling you
"Jungle Names." And they just don't stop at that. I know people who have
been physically attacked, pushed, spat upon for just being African.
I've actually had the misfortune of working with many such types when I was
a Supermarket Stocking Hand. The types of jokes I've heard them say about
Africans still riles me. But, I'd rather not go into that right now, 'cause
my blood pressure goes thru' the roof. The sheer ignorance and self-hatred
of this group never cease to amaze me. So, to see this Yusupha person
getting stuck at their skin color just makes me wonder. But why bother?
At least you seem to know the type I'm talking about, and Omar Drammeh seems
to have had an encounter with the "cool" type. I say Cool b/c from what Omar
said, the guy seems to have a little idea about his identity. The full-grown
ones have absolutely no clue.
You just have to pray not to run afoul of them 'cause they'll kill you in a
heartbeat - not for anything you may have done, but for where you originate.
Once they hear your accent, the bombs start falling.
