Baba, beautiful as usual. To compliment your poem, I wrote these lines
early this morning.

We gathered at the bantaba
our bleeding souls and dry tears
our wounded pride and scared image

And talked about all the things we know
the things we know not what to do
and we sang all our redemption songs
songs we know not how to relive and to dance.

Our voices disjointed and weary
drowned in the tumultuous drumbeat
of the dancing and masquerading
the joyful meriment and praise singing
that adorned the king in his majestic palace.

We gathered at the bantaba
our scribes and scholars
our poets and philosophers
and we analyzed
and we scrutinized
and we dissected
our anger, our frustration and our emptiness

And we talked about all the things we know
the things we know not what to do
and we sang all our redemption songs
songs we know not how to relive and to dance.

From the thatched huts
in the secluded green pastures of Sari Yoro
to the swampy rice in the rain-drenched
fields of Sapo and Mansakonko

Our voices disjointed and weary
drowned in the tumultuous drumbeat
of the dancing and masquerading
the joyful merriment and praise singing
that adorned the king in his majestic palace.

Rene

Silent Beauty – A PoemBy Baba Galleh Jallow  You hold your voiceIn this
talking shopObserve silenceWhere speech is goldenNot wishing to
hurtSome innocent earsSome fragile ears Some innocent mindsSilent you
watchSome ignorant earsSome arrogant mindsRemain darkToo wise to hear!
You hold your tongueYou feel this gazeOf repressed desireTurned to
hateYou feel this gazeOf hostile mindsThat see differenceAs marking
placeYou see this rageInspired by loveThat must be killedMust not be
felt!  You keep your peaceAnd watch this rageSee faces stretchedTo
breaking pointSee eyes bloatedTo bursting pointSee minds depravedToo
wise to hearToo hard to feelToo blind to seeThis silent beauty!
