Dear Friends:

The Gambia African Liberation Day (ALD) organizing committee cordially invites you to attend our ALD celebration on May 25 - 28, 2001 in Washington, DC. The theme of this year's conference is "Building Bridges…Building Hope." The theme characterizes our organizational mission to encourage hope in the face of growing obstacles, to ensure adequate life opportunities, and to build brides of opportunities to alter these trends.

As advocates for the fundamental principals of DEMOCRACY, we have focused our attention on democratic issues challenging our country. In keeping with this, we are inviting you to join us for a symposium focusing on the October, 2001 presidential election. Invited speakers are:

Hon. Sajo Jallow, SOS Youths & Sport and APRC Spokesperson
Hon. Ousainou Darboe, UDP (confirmed)
Hon. Sidia Jatta, PDOIS
Hon. Hamat Bah, NRP (confirmed)

The symposium will highlight issues and policies that we have been engaged in during the past years. In addition to education they include: economic inclusion and empowerment, health care, voter education and registration, criminal justice, and international relations. The event will provide you an opportunity to express your concerns in a civil conversation with presidential candidates for the upcoming October 2001 election. The aim of the conference is to educate, build partnerships, advance dialogue and to forge a plan of action. Your participation would serve to advance our goal
and we hope that you will be able to participate. The conference promises to be one of the most significant and thought provoking gatherings of the year.

Other scheduled events during the weekend include, a soccer tournament, dance-parties, and a picnic. We are expecting Gambians from across the US.

If you need further information please feel free to contact Mr. Latjor Ndow, at (301) 593-5844, by email at [log in to unmask] or Mr. James Gomez, Jr., at (202) 333-5270 or [log in to unmask] We look forward to hearing from you.
