Subject: [wa-afr] Kenyan Youngsters Mark Children*s Broadcasting Day

Kenyan youngsters mark Children's Broadcasting Day

NAIROBI, Dec 10 (Reuters) - Eight Kenyan radio and TV stations aired hundreds
of contributions by young Kenyans on Sunday to mark the International
Children's Day of Broadcasting.

The day has been marked in Kenya each year since 1992, when two radio
stations took part.

A United Nations Children's Fund spokesman said the stations were giving
local children the chance to produce and record their aspirations for the
future. Their contributions, slotted into programmes throughout the day,
would reach a wide audience.

Local schools have co-operated with Unicef to encourage the coming generation
to express itself, he added. The topics ranged from the AIDS pandemic to
attacks on corruption and appeals for free schooling for all Kenyan children.

In a special event this year, 10,000 children thronged an amusement park in a
Nairobi suburb to participate in sports events and games to mark the day.
