Regarding the G8 meetings and debt remissions, you may be pleased to hear
the following.

Five 5 years ago in Birmingham UK there was a very big campaign when the GB
leaders were meeting here.  70,000 people met, and marched, and Tony Blair
came to talk to one or two of the campaign leaders.

Last Friday, exactly 5 years after the campaign, many of us again met in
Birmingham to march and to talk again about the need for debt remission and
cancellation.  There were several meetings, one was in St Phillips
Cathedral. The head of Islamic Relief in Birmingham was there, together with
the Lord Lieutenant of Birmingham who is a Sikh, and the Bishop of
Birmingham
who is an (African) Christian.  Also there was a senior member of the OXFAM
staff, the head of the World Development Movement, the heads of Christian
aid, CAFOD, and the Mothers Union.  Three important Africans came to talk
about debt in their countries, also a man from Brazil and one from India.
We all made red chains and put them round all the cathedral railings.  In
the evening Sir Bob Geldorf was there too.

                     So we are trying!  Lets hope that together will all the
other initiatives it will help.
