How to protect yourself from the ILOVEYOU virus

This describes how to protect yourself from the virus using Network
Associates' Dr. Solomon VirusScan 4 as it is currently the only company
to
have a patch for this virus.

You are only vunerable to this virus if you are using Windows
95/NT/98/2000,
you could however pass it on to other users by forwarding this mail.

This guide assumes that your computer has no other virus scanner loaded
on
it. ZDNet UK are unable to provide further support for any problems you
run
into following these instructions.

Step 1 - Download Dr Solomon VirusScan (evaluation version)

If you already have a copy of VirusScan 4 on your computer proceed to
step 3.

Follow the "Go to Download Site" link from this page in the ZDNet UK
Software Library
Select the Dr Solomon VirusScan for your Operating System from the list
Fill in your personal details and save the installer onto your computer
Wait for the installer to download onto your computer
Close any applications that are running on your computer
Unzip and run the installer (setup.exe)
Choose Typical Install, make an emergency boot disk if you want to
Ask the Installer to restart your computer

Step 2 - Download and install the Virus Patch

Download the patch direct from Dr. Solomon's web site at
http://www.drsolomons.com/home/extra.zip
Unzip the contents of the file
Copy extra.dat to the directory that the scanner lives in
( C:\Program Files\Network Associates\Dr Solomon's VirusScan\ by
default).

 Restart Windows

You're now protected!
