Saiks,
I could not agree more because all that you said was based on concrete and existing facts within a professional perspective.I was not trying to deny or counter what Habib said instead i was trying to build upon his analyses.
Yes the market may not be an immediate challenge but it does not exist either, thats why some farmers sneak into Senegal via Ndungu Kebbeh and Dingiraay to sell their nuts.
So as you outlined in your text and i must admit that your article was very good and full of information that worths revisiting now and again.
You have stated most of the reasons that have created the circumstances that led to the non existence of a market for what our farmer's producte When products perish that means they could not be marketed and why are they not being marketed is what you exactly helped us identify in your piece.
From a professional perspective Saikou and in all honesty i highly appreciate your piece.

Sir Ebou!
Thank you for the additional piece with respect to what i wrote on FORMOSA.
The speech was said at a time when Taiwan was growing at a fast rate.It is indeed true that our friends on that island prefer being called CITIZENS OF THE REPUBLIC OF CHINA. The feeling stems from the fact that the KMT party that fled Mainland China after being defeated by Mao Zedung saw themselves as the true democrats and for them Mao wasn't.The very existence of Taiwan started as a spot or a renegade island where the KMT was "regrouping" to launch a counter attcak on Mainland. The party leaders fled to the island and declared it the democratic and free China. That is why in the beginning it was the other way round ie: Taiwan wanted to sieze Mainland China again from the hands of Mao(who defeated the KMT),therefore Taiwan saw the Mainland as part of their democratic territory and they never recognised Mao's regime. For them it was a bunch of bandits-it was communism versus capitalism at the farthest. That is very philosophy of Vice President Anette Lu of Taiwan...she was jailed for six
years after being arrested for protesting against the then statusquo. Its very interestind because after becoming comfortable the KMT also ruled Taiwan with an iron fist, copying methods that were almost the same as those being applied by Mao and co back home! Wonders never sieze! People like Lu who were products of Harvard and porwestern democratic styles rose against the regime on Taiwan and at the same against the system in the Mainland. The reason why she is a close ally of prez Shui Bian.
That era was interesting as far as the world political scenario was concerned. The west therefore gave a helping hand to Taiwan and used it as a base to get access to Mao's system.Taiwan during those days was not a significant player. They were like any other third world country.Malaria disappeared from Taiwan about twenty years ago.It took Taiwan not more than thirty years to be an economic power.
To date Taiwan plays a pivotal role when it comes to trade, thus the reason why they are on the WTO even whereas their membership at the UN is yet to be.
Many companies in Mainland today believe it or not belong to Taiwanese tycoons.Mainland is obvioulsy a force to reckon with when it comes to market. They have the population and Taiwan has the know how. Thus the reason why i said that business and politics are like two sides of a colanut.
The news about Taiwan's relationship with Mainland is spread like wild fire but if one steps on the island and then look around you will realise that the lay man does not feel the difference at all.The people are the same, the culture is the same, the tradional beilefs are the same.So you see the effects of the colonialsim, cold war or political ambitions that have been created to satisfy few people goes beyond Africa's boundaries.
What i believe is;people-to-people relations, because they are the ones that every politcian uses as an excuse. Many claim to be saving when in actual fact those being seen as "subjects" that should be protected are indeed being grilled.I do agree with Saikou on that.People are not sheep and no one should see yourself as a shepherd.People should be the base or pillars of every regime.
Please Ebou am about to break my fast so we will revisit this interesting topic again.

Essa Bokarr Sey.
