To brothers and sisters in Islam.

I am pleased to give you this information. I believe that many of us know it already but it is a duty of all Muslims Umma to inform about Islam for Dawa. The following is an extract from "The Book of Fasting" by Mohammed Iqbal Kailani. Let Allah the Lord of Mercy reward him for his efforts.
------------------------------------------

SUPEREROGATORY FAST

Precept-86: Excellence of Supererogatory Fast.

Abu Huraira transmits that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) stated: A person, with the intention of pleasing Allah, observes a supererogatory fast, Allah will keep him so far from Hell as the distance which a crow can't travel between its life and its death. (Transmitted by Adhmed)

Precept-87: Fasting for six days in Shawwaal (every year) is equivalent to fasting for the entire life.

Abu Ayyub Ansari transmits that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) stated: Whoever, after completing the fasts of Ramadan (every eyar), fasts for six days in Shawwaal, he will be rewarded as if he has been fasting for his entire life. (Transmitted by Muslim, Abu Dawood, Nasaai, Tirmidhi and Ibn Maaja).

EXPLANATION: (30 + 6 = 36 x 10 = 360 reward for (360) days of fasting: in other words for the whole year. If after Ramadan in every year the six days of fasting in Shawwaal are observed (regularly every year) the reward will be equivalent to fasting for the entire life.

Percept-88: Fasting regularly during the days of Beedh (Bright nights of 13th, 14th, 15th of the lunar month) will earn the reward equivalent to fasting for the entire life.

Abu Qatada transmits that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) stated: From one Ramadan to another, fasting for three days of Beedh (Bright nights) in every lunar month is equivalent to fasting for the entire life. (Transmitted by Muslim).

EXPLANATION: 3 x 12 = 36 x 10 = 360 days of fasting.

Precept-89: It is lawful to observe supererogatory fast while travelling.

Abn Abbas relates that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) never missed the fasts during the Days of Beedh whether at home or in journey. (Transmitted by Nasaai).

Precept-90: Excellence of observing supererogatory fast in Holy War.

Abu Sayeed Khudri transmits that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) stated: Whoever observed a supererogatory fast for one day during Holy War, Allah will keep him away from Hell at a distance of seventy years of travelling (Transmitted by Bukhari and Muslim).

Precept-91: The supererogatory fast on Monday and Thursday was appealing to the Messenger of Allah (PBUH).

Abu Huraira transmits that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) stated: Deeds of people are presented before Allah on Monday and Thursday. I would like to be in a state of fasting when my deeds are presented before Allah (Transmitted by Tirmidhi).

Precept-92: Fasting on the Day of Arafaath (9th Dhul Hijja) is expiation of minor sins committed during two years (past one year and the next year). Fasting on the day of Aashoora (10th Muharram) is expiation of minor sins committed in the last one year.

Abu Qatada transmits that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) stated: Fasting on the Day of Arafaath is expiation of sins committed during two years (past one year and the next year); and fasting on the Day of Aashoora is expiation of sins committed in the past one year (Transmitted by Ahmed, Muslim, Abu Dawood, Nasaai and Ibn Maaja).

EXPLANATION: It is unbecoming to fast only on the 10th Muharram. (See Precept-114: It is unbecoming to fast only on 10th Muharram (Fast of Aashoorah). Fasting on 9th and 10th Muharram or 10th and 11th Muharram is plausible. )

Precept -93: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) observed more fast in the month of Shabaan than in other months.

Ayesha states: I have not seen the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) fasting for the whole month except in Ramadan. Nor did I see the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) fasting excessively in any other month but Shabaan (Transmitted by Bukhari and Muslim).

EXPLANATION: All traditions regarding fasting and being awake in the night of 15th Shabaan are spurious. At the most, what is established by genuine traditions is that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) observed fast excessively in the month of Shabaan.

Precept-94: The most excellent mode of supererogatory fasting is to observe fast every alternate day.

Abdullah bin Amr transmits that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) stated: Fast for three days in a month. I said: I have more strength than that. The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) prevailed upon me to decrease the number of fast, so much so that he stated: Fast for a day and do not fast the next day. These are most excellent fasts. This was the practice of my brother Dawood (Transmitted by Bukhari and Muslim).

Precept-95: Excellence of fasting in Muharram.

Abu Huraira transmits that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) stated: After Ramadan the most excellent days of fasting are during Muharram which is the month of Allah. After obligatory prayer the most excellent prayer is the Tahajjud Prayer (Transmitted by Muslim).

Precept-96: Excellence of fasting on Monday.

Abu Qatada relates that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) was asked about observing fast on Monday. He stated: I was born on Monday, and it was on Monday that the Revelation of the Holy Quran commenced (Transmitted by Muslim).

Precept-97: It is plausible to fast for three days in a month.

Moaaz Adaviiah asked Ayesha concort of the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) as to whether the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) observed fast for three days in a month? Ayesha replied: "Yes".
Moaaz Adaviiah asked: Which three days in the month? Ayesha stated: Any three days in the month (Transmitted by Muslim).

Precept-98: It was the practice of the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) to observe fast on the first Monday and Thursday of the month and the following Thursday too.

Ibn Umar transmits that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) observed fast for three days in a month; The first Monday and Thursday of the month and the following Thursday too (Nasaai).

Precept-99: The intention for a supererogatory fast can be formed anytime before noon provided one has not eaten or drank anything.
-----------------------------------------
Eid Mubarak and a prosperous new year to you all. I wish you strength and good health to contine with six days of fasting starting tomorrow.

We are praying for those who were making intention to fast in Ramadan but passed away before the month of Ramadan. Let's join prayer for Allah to give them the reward for their good intention. Also for those who could not perform fast because of illness or any circumstances that stopped them to fulfil their good intention. May Allah give them intentional rewards for Ramadan. Those who observed the fast through the month with difficulty or without difficulty let's join prayer that Allah give them the good intention for the month of Ramadan.

Let us join in prayer to have peace and good health for all mankind in the world through out our lifetime and let God take us away from all kind of hypocricy disturbing peace between ourselves and our neighbours.
"Innal mun nafi hina fil dah ri axfalli finari jahanama mina nar" = all the hypcorits will be the concrete floor of the black hellfire.
