Thanks for finding my post informative. I appreciate your input.

However, while I may agree with you that the quality of electricity service had deteriorated over the early and latter parts of 1990, the supply or availability was not limited to only the parts you've mentioned in your post. I don't see anywhere in my posting where I mentioned Jarra. Rather, I stated Jarra West. Also, the electricity poles and services have gone beyond the main road in Karantaba. In fact, over ninety percent was covered during the first republic. Over ninety percent of the geographical land of Soma was also covered both in infrastructure and service. The same thing can be said of the following places: Kanikunda, Sankwia, Mansakonko, Pakalinding and Jenoi. These places constitute the core of Jarra West. Also, they are the most densely populated places in Jarra West. The administrative and commercial districts were spread within these arears. No one will win the National Assemby seat or the chieftancy without a grassroot support from these areas. Kemeseng Jammeh will attest to this.

Now, one may ask why Si-kunda and Toniataba were left out of the electrification project of Jarra West? Well, the answer is very simple. Dirty politics. As I mentioned in my previous posting, the main challenger to Yaya Ceesay was Kemeseng Jammeh, a native of Si-kunda. Si-kunda and Toniataba are neighboring/brotherly villages. Here, I hope the rest can be easily equated.

Nice and informative post, Seedy. I have a little quibble with this passage in your post:

"...Kemeseng barely came any close to unseating Yaya, who had tremendous support
within Jarra. Yaya Ceesay was best remembered for his efforts in bringing
electricity, especially street lights, to most of Jarra. I mean a regular
  electricity service."

The electricity services in Jarra was limited to Karantaba (compounds along the main road), Soma (parts of it), and Mansakonko-Pakalinding. Jarra West is more than those three places - that's far from most of Jarra West (plus only a handful of govt workers live in Mansakonko, not locals). The street lights in Soma hardly ever came on in the whole of 1990 and 1991. Electricity outages in Soma tooks days, not hours as in the Kombos. I'd admit that just having wires running through your house providing sporadic service is an improvement over no electricity at all.
