United Democratic Party supporters in Niani constituency say they welcome
the expulsion of their National Assembly member Almamy Touray from the
party. In an interview with The Independent on behalf of the UDP supporters
in Niani constituency Kajali Ceesay said that Almamy's expulsion came at a
time when he could no longer count on the support of the people of Niani
whose confidence in him had waned over the last four years. He if he were
not dismissed from the party the UDP would have lost Niani constituency as a
political stronghold. Mr. Touray's sacking was accompanied by accusations
against him for lack of commitment to the policies and principles of the
UDP, which its members said was proven beyond doubt.

The UDP however stated in its press release that the last twelve months, Mr.
Touray adopted an attitude of indifference and that the recent was during
the last sitting of the National Assembly on the indemnity bill. It was
reported that the people of Niani were the first to realise the change of
heart by Mr. Touray who has since announced his loyalty to the ruling APRC.
Mr. Ceesay highlighted that the sacking of Mr. Touray from the UDP will only
increase unity among the people of Niani and brings greater support for the
UDP. 'If the APRC happens to give a ticket for Almamy to run in the
forthcoming National Assembly election, we will call on our party leader
Ousainou Darboe to please bring forth his ram and we will vote it in instead
of Almamy', Kajali Ceesay said, urging party supporters not to term Almamy's
sacking as anything wrong.

He said Almamy's removal is a blessing in disguise, bringing peace,
tranquillity and unity and a cause for Niani to rally behind the UDP for a
brighter future. When asked about the performance of Mr. Touray Kajali
Ceesay said, ''Almamy is neither active in Niani constituency's development
nor vocal in the National Assembly and he does not cooperate with his
colleagues".
