A Second Lieutenant in The Gambia National Army has been arrested in the
United States for allegedly being in possession of fake US currency notes,
The Independent can reveal.Second Lieutenant Lamin Combo landed in the net of
the US police after he was allegedly found with some stash of replica US
notes, contrary to international currency laws. Combo left The Gambia on
December 17 2002 for the United States to attend a six-month Infantry
Officers Course. His arrest naturally put paid to his participation in the
course, where soldiers from other countries had converged.Captain Bunja
Darboe, the Army's Public Relations Officer declined to verify the arrest of
Combo, saying he can only hazard comments after investigations into the
matter is completed.
