A colleague of mine sent these, more recent, figures:

this past week i just so happened to get the 'report from the national
survey on maternal, perinatal, neonatal and infant mortality and
contraceptive prevalence' (that's a mouthful) from the MCH division
(published in 2002 by DoSH/SW in collab. with UNFPA, WHO, UNICEF,
PHPNP/WB). this is probably one of the most recent studies that documents
'type of union' for a fairly represenative sample of gambians (the more
detailed 2003 census data is, sadly, nowhere near publication). they
surveyed a total of 5,786 women between the ages of 15-49 and 5,050 men
over age 18 and found that among women, 50.7% were in monogamous unions,
47.3% in polygynous unions and 1.9% not available. among men, 63.3% were
in monogamous unions, 34.3% polygynous and 2.5% not available.
