    What a tourist said about the coup. 
  "Everything looks like a big fat lie!" This is what I heard from one tourist who knows The Gambia very well. He has been visiting the country for the past 25 years or more...He is very upset because he thinks the latest craziness from The Gambian president has already destroyed the country's image. "Is it even a safe destination anymore?" the tourist asked himself.

  Daba Marenah and others dead, so innocent so unfortunate. 
  New revelations have started emerging regarding the disappearance of the alleged coup plotters. Did they escape after all? There are so many versions in Banjul these days. There are people who believed in what was said in the air because they do not have the time to dig deeper and deeper. There are people who are second guessing the sources. There are sources who laugh at what ever President Jammeh says to cover up his lies, they simply see him as one pathological liar from Kanilai. 
  Where the lies do not match the excuses! 
  Looking at the whole picture is better than glancing at it. For example I was talking to a foreigner who works at the RVH. She said this to me..."If one looks at what your President is doing or saying it sends another signal different from what he intends to sell to the public...I cannot believe that a prisoner can escape while in chains..." This is an international perspective right there. Of course no prisoner will ever be transported without him or her being under tight security. Particularly those accused of treason???

  Crimes of that nature are deemed to be too serious and such people are seen as a menace to society. This is an international view. How can The Gambia be different in this case? How can a president who jails his opponents, charged them for sedition on trivial issues be so negligent while transporting prisoners to another jail? This does not make sense. How could Daba Marenah,Lowe,Corr and others over whelm the dangerous Banjul 'Fedayin' when those prisoners were not armed? How could they over whelm people who had short guns,batons,machine guns and the like? This does not make sense. 
  President Jammeh and Daba Marenah were not in talking terms last Tobaski. 
  It was an open secret when Jammeh and Marenah were not in talking terms. Daba Marenah is dead…. Complained to people who were close to Jammeh. This is known within state house. Even today I met someone who talked to me about that.Jammeh for some reason decided to shut the gates between him and Marenah.He is a moody person according to my source. When in a bad mood Jammeh can kill anyone for flimsy reasons! This is a known fact, I will not back down on that one. 
  
  How President Jammeh created enemies for Daba Marenah and then left him at their mercy two weeks ago. 
  In September 2004,Musa Jammeh the head of the CHIAKAS was arrested by the NIA. He was accused of stealing rice and other household items in Kanilai. At the time Musa Jammeh became so furious because he believes he was betrayed by the president. He was then arrested by the NIA.Daba Marenah was the head of the agency then. 
  Daba according to my source in Banjul wanted to make peace between President Jammeh and Musa. This did not materialize because the president was using operation no compromise to convince the IMF. He wanted the Washington officials at the IMF building believe in this. Marenah was caught in between two old friends who killed so many people together. He made Musa Jammeh believe that Daba Marenah was behind his arrest. He made Marenah also believe if he fails to get anything from Musa him Marenah was going to lose his Job and then be arrested. 
  Daba Marenah there and then saw himself as someone being urged to prove his professional powers by a whole president. He became so comfortable to handle the case of a man like Musa Jammeh. A man who many Gambians believe was untouchable. 
  Of course Musa Jammeh did so many things which were against the law. So a trained officer like Daba decided to handle Musa's case directly. He was able to gather a lot of pieces together. As a result of that Musa Jammeh stayed in prison for 10 good months. At the end when President Jammeh realized how deep Marenah went to follow up Musa's case, he started getting scared. He remembered that getting Musa means getting him.

  President according to my source decided to bring in Manlafy Corr and Essa Tamba to replace Musa Jammeh. He assigned them to eliminate Musa in the event that he decided to talk more. He also assigned them to work hand in hand in with Daba Marenah on that file.Daba was so pleased because he saw it as direct support from the President. Musa Jammeh too as a former special guard of President Jammeh had his own loyalists within the state house. 
  His arrest caused a serious rift. Well after a while President Jammeh saw through the whole thing therefore he pursued his interest. He decided to bring Musa back to the state house. From that point Daba Marenah lived under constant fear. He knew his days were numbered but tried to use Aziz Tamba to get back into President Jammeh's good books. Daba made a big mistake. His confidence was misplaced! Aziz Tamba made things worse for him.Tamba was a big opportunist in all this fracas so he decided to side with Musa. 
  Daba Marenah is dead, so sad so unfortunate. There are people within the State guard and the NIA who think that Jammeh simply hates Marenah because he thinks the guy knew a lot about him. He became paranoid therefore used fools like Musa Jammeh to do the present dirty job for him.
