Michael,

GESO USA has been dormant for a long time. I have to accept part of the
responsibility for that because I attempted to register it as a non-profit
twice and gave up the first time due to a lapse in communication with the IRS
and the grace period expired. I tried a second tiem through someone and that
was not completed either.
The other reason for the dormancy of GESO USA is that it was agreed to assign
roles to differetn individuals such as recruitment etc, and I was to
concentrate on registerign members and coordination, and somehow, things just
got left undone by all of us after that. There was also not much response in
appeals for membership that I did initially, and we had only about 13 members
or so. The payment of dues was another major problem.
We had about $1,000 in the GESO USA account at one point, and sent $600+ to
GESO Gambia so they could register an a non-profit over there. The remaining
$300 has since been depleted by the monthly bank fees of $12. I have promised
to replace this amount since I was supposed to register the organization as a
non-profit which would have eliminated the monthly bank fees since the bank
would have waived our monthly account fees if we get out non-profit status. I
closed the account after the funds became depleted.
I want to open another acount and get the organization on it's feet again,
and hope that we can have more interest from folks here in the US. I will set
up another mailing list and send an announcement to the two lists.
