To Our Compatriots heading to Senegal for the discussion of The Gambia
Democracy Project; as a concerned Gambian may I suggest that you add to
Your arsenal of strategies 'A Hostage Negotiating Strategy' and Yes you
heard me right. No matter how one reads the political dynamics that
revolve around The Gambia and Senegal (Oriental/Cassamance) with a
modicum of serious thinking it is plausible to arrive to such a
conclusion.
ALL GAMBIANS except jammeh and his MFDC collaborators believe and
respect the Sovereignty of the Republic of Senegal and Cassamance to be
a contiguous part and parcel of the Senegalese Nation State. We as
Gambians respect that and We do Agree with President Marky Sall on that
unequivocal assertion. So Being the case when jammeh uses the
relationship with MFDC to run the Gambia as his fiefdom; Certainly La
Republique du Senegal cannot exculpate itself from the responsibility
in claiming Cassamance as its domain in the same breath and be excused
for the collaboration of its citizens from what they do in the Gambia
and
its resultant impact. Any thought remotely close to the
counterintuitive would be suggesting to
proof a False Negative. The True Positive here is that Senegal would
NOT Under
Any Circumstance cede Cassamance to The Gambia. In light of these
dynamics Our Neighbors/Brothers should rein in their compatriots and
Promote the Peaceful Co-Existence of the two sovereign states with
Mutual Respect as espoused by the AU and ECOWAS Charters of Territorial
Existence. For the purposes of greater collaboration between the Two
States I suggest the frame work that was proposed by Sir Dawda Jawara
(if I might excuse myself here for all who know me; it is not
common that I side with the former president) to the late President
Senghore "the Sixth Sense of a Political Reality" in paraphrasing him,
the coming together of the {two} peoples to form that union through
political dialogue and cultural exchanges. As a point of Caution; No
Amount of political intrigue, coercion or otherwise would stand that
test contrary as the former president himself came to learn in the
defunct Confederal Arrangements when he tried to be politically
expedient by circumventing the democratic process a la The Kaur
Declaration. Senegal has to understand that the main reason jammeh is
treating Gambians with utter disdain and contempt is because there is
no way he jammeh can move Gambians in recognizing Cassamance as a
separate entity from Senegal. This brings us full circle and makes the
point to the thesis that Gambia is being held hostage by Senegal and
this trend of thought is akin to being generous.
The Gambians are Constant We Cherish OUR SOVEREIGNTY and We Respect
 Senegalese SOVEREIGNTY.

Farang.
