I just read this sad piece of news from the pdois mailing list and I am reeling from the shock. I am hoping against hope that this is a big mistake. May Allah have mercy on Deyda and grant him Jannah. Can those on the ground please provide more details? This is indeed a very sad day for not only Gambian journalism but for the country as a whole.

A terrible news for the freedom of the press and expression. Dyda Hydara, Managing Editor and co-Owner of the POINT Newspaper was murdered in cold blood on Thursday night at about 11pm by occupants of a taxi that pursued his vehicle after leaving his office.
