ABIDJAN, Oct 13 (AFP) - Angola is sending military equipment to Ivory Coast
to bolster government forces battling rebels for almost a month, military
sources said Sunday.
   Two armoured vehicles arrived early Sunday at Abidjan's military air
base and were expected to be up and running within 48 hours, the sources,
who asked not to be named, told AFP.
   Angola could also send a susbtantial number of troops to Ivory Coast,
along with more equipment, they added.
   The sources added that planes loaded with ammunition from the Soviet-era
stocks of eastern European armies and piloted by Bulgarians had been
arriving in Abidjan.
   In Luanda, the office of Angolan President Jose Eduardo dos Santos
refused to comment on Ivory Coast.
   Angolan troops are also supporting the government of President Joseph
Kabila in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
   One military source said the vehicles were Soviet-designed T55 tanks,
which first went into service in 1958 and are armed with 100mm cannons;
another said they were BMP1 armoured personnel carriers, which are tracked
vehicles for transporting troops and which carry smaller guns.
   The Ivory Coast mutineers and former soldiers who launched an uprising
on September 19 now control more than half the west African nation, and on
Sunday entered the key western cocoa town of Daloa.
