Actually we saw on the same papers that Yaya was on his way to accra to attend the under mentioned trip! I tried locating his name on the list of speakers but could not see it! Indeed that is better because I would have wondered how? This is a place where this doctor in "kenyeleng" philosophy could only go and take notes on tolerance, the art of being able to talk through decency and then understand that Africa is being oiled by EFFECTIVE SERVICES!
How can we progress without matching what our international partners are using in this modern age? Hello Yaya! Kagame is a brave fighter but he has reasons behind the speech he delivered. Here is a called Rwanda,a country that knows how harmful evil propaganda is because they went thru one of the world's worst nightmares because of "evil" propaganda. Are you not stifling the truth-tellers Yaya? I wonder if you were so comfortable in that forum bro?!
When minds like Kufour speak then some of us know who stays in a hotel room claiming to be suffering from flu! This is funny!
Read and ask yourselves why didn't the Gambian "shapeless" Pan Africanist steal the show here? Why was he dormant there? Yaya I thought you are that pro Africa? Where and when? Yaya a Pan African? Then Pan Africanism is ailing these days! Am sorry for our current Africanism then! So sorry!

Ghanaian president, John Agyekum Kufuor, has called on media practitioners in Africa to help foster the ongoing discussions on the information communication technology.

Kufour was speaking at the official opening of the Africa Regional Preparatory Conference of the World Summit on Information Society (WSIS). He expressed confidence that Africa can bridge the digital gap that divides her and the rest of the world, "and that the next few years will see Africa making amazing strides in this sector and leap-frogging its development".

The Ghanaian president made a special appeal to the media in helping to promote awareness and knowledge of information. ''Let me therefore at this point make a special plea to the media in Africa. Please help to educate the populace to demystify ICT. This way, all of us will be involved in making Africa part of the world information society," he urged.

Speaking on the theme "Access: Africa's Key to an inclusive information”, he said telecommunication and infrastructure is the back bone to achieving success. He commended President Abdoulaye Wade of Senegal for championing Africa's Digital Solidarity Fund which is part of the route to ICT empowerment in Africa. ''We need to take brave decisions. We do not have much time. This is a call to partnership in line with the spirit of Nepad. Africa needs to join the rest of the world in order to meet the 2015 MDG deadline,'' he said.

Also speaking at the ceremony, President Paul Kagame of Rwanda called for an increased access to information, which he described as paramount. He added that ICT would play a significant role in fostering regional integration and will make Africa a successful part of the global information society. He said in Rwanda, ICT has been playing a great role in peace and conflict resolution.
President Kagame said Africa is yet to reap the fruits of ICT as there are still grounds for investment. He cited India as a country where ICT is gaining ground and used for socio-economic emancipation. ''ICT is more than a local issue, that is why we should make a global involvement. If we continue to work together as partners, we will be able to create an environment that will benefit our people,'' he said.

Josephine Ndong, representative of President Abdoulaye Wade of Senegal, expressed the need to create a conducive environment for the effective implementation of the Information Communication Technology in Africa and to mobilise support to enhance the success of the Digital Solidarity Fund. He said the financing of the Africa ICT project is extremely important and called on every stakeholder to participate.

Other speakers included the secretary general of International Telecommunication Union, Unesco representative, and the United Nations Commission for Africa.

The conference will prepare Africa for effective participation in the second phase of the WSIS in Tunisia to ensure a strategic and interdependent digital partnership that will promote economic growth, good governance, and human development in the continent.
