GAMBIA BENEFITS FROM DEBT RELIEVE FUND.
The National Assembly on Monday passed a supplementary appropriation bill
for the use of D68, 010.00 out of the Highly Indebted Poor Countries (HIPC)
resources account to provide services in the country in the current
financial year.

The sectors to benefit from investment of the D68.01 million include
increasing access to quality basic education through the construction of
more classrooms, provision of scholarships for girls, training of more
teachers, provision of ambulances, vaccines, permethrin and impregnated bed
nets so as to improve the health care delivery system.
The HIPC resources will also be used for the purchase of fertilizers and
pesticides to enhance crop yields and for crop protection; to conduct the
2003 national population and housing census; establishment of regional high
courts (Brikama’s was inaugurated last week); for the promotion of
community-based eco-tourism; construction of feeder roads and wells; and for
the establishment of more fish processing centres, as well as the promotion
of youth participation in fishing. Wise decision, won’t you say?

Have a good day and bye 4Now, KB Jobe.
