President Yahya Jammeh yesterday received in audience Mr Femi Peters, the campaign manager and propaganda secretary of the United Democratic Party (UDP) at State House.

Speaking at the reception, President Jammeh affirmed that he harbours no animosity against the opposition, but he only wants them to complement government’s efforts in the task of nation building. He added that he yearns for Gambians to live in peace, pride and prosperity, regardless of their political inclinations. He opined that The Gambia can be a model nation in every way not only for Africa, but also for the whole world.

He asserted that he is immune to destructive criticism, but always welcomes constructive criticism aimed at promoting goodwill and fraternity. He emphasized that misunderstanding is inevitable among people, but he abhors irreconcilability, declaring that antipathy will hamper The Gambia’s onward march to peace, progress and prosperity, hence the need for reconciliation. According to him, well-meaning Gambians should steer clear of those who foment bad blood and rancour and then team up the party that has the interest of the nation at heart.

As if on cue, Mr Femi Peters said despite being in the opposition and a strong critic of the Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction (APRC), he still has the interest of the country at heart.
He explained that he was at State House to foster open dialogue, cooperation, brotherhood and peace among the country’s political leaders. In his view, this initiative is a new beginning for Gambian politics, which he hoped will blossom for the good of every Gambian. He stressed that he would like to see greater dialogue, prospects, involvement and commitment among the country’s political leaders. Mr Peters then suggested that he would like to have another tete-a-tete with President Jammeh in due course.
A staunch supporter of President Jammeh, Aja Awa Jange Saho, disclosed that she convinced Mr Femi Peters to call on President Jammeh in the spirit of reconciliation and brotherhood.
The Vice President Aja Isatou Njie-Saidy commended Femi Peters for keeping up the open dialogue initiated by President Jammeh with opposition leaders on issues of national interest. She urged all stakeholders in Gambian politics to nurture the prevailing peace and stability in the country and called on all Gambians to join President Jammeh to develop the country, as the country is for every Gambian.
For his part, Mr Sheikh Tijan Hydara, the Secretary of State for Justice, implored all Gambians to give President Jammeh every support, as he strives to move the country forward. ",1] ); //-->

  by Alieu Badara Ceesay

Two senior officials of Humanity First, Mansoor Ahmed Shad and Azhar Ahmadi, chairman and auditors respectively, yesterday paid a courtesy call on the Vice President of The Gambia,\n Ajaratou Dr Mrs Isatou Njie-Saidy, at State House to brief her on the state of projects that are sponsored by the charity in The Gambia.
Speaking to the Daily Observer shortly after their audience with the Vice President, Mr Mansoor Ahmed Shad said they discussed the contributions of Humanity First to the socio-economic development of The Gambia since it was set up here about five years ago. When you have time, please relay to us what that was all about. Many a
bizzare things are unfolding in that country daily. Thanks for your
