US Ambassador visits NDEA cocaine store

Tuesday, January 10, 2012

The Ambassador of the United State of America to The Gambia, Pamela
Ann White, yesterday visited the exhibits store at the agency’s office
in Banjul, where two and half tonnes of cocaine worth more than one
billion dollars seized last year by the National Drug Enforcement
Agency (NDEA), are kept.

Ambassador Pamela White, accompanied by senior officials of the US
Embassy in Banjul, was taken on a conducted tour of the store by
senior officials of the NDEA and senior police officers including the
Inspector General of Police, Yankuba Sonko.

Speaking to journalists shortly after the US diplomat’s visit, NDEA
public relations officer ASP Abdoulie Ceesay told journalists that the
ambassador wanted to view the exhibits store, where the drugs seized
are being kept.

He said the US diplomat checked the drugs, and that everything was intact.

When asked by the journalists what was the reason or motive for the US
diplomat’s visit to the exhibits store, PRO Ceesay said Ambassador
White wanted to check the exhibits store to ensure that all the
exhibits are intact, and also whether they are being properly stored.

He added that after the inspection, the Ambassador said she was
satisfied with the way the exhibits were being kept.

According to PRO Ceesay, the Ambassador was very appreciative of the
efforts of keeping the exhibits safely up to now.
