GAMBIA OR THE REIGN OF DREAD
While the countries of Western Africa fight to consolidate the foundations of democracy, the president Yahya JAMMEH makes reign dread in his country, Gambia. Arrests, executions summaries and extrajudicial, disappearing is the daily lot of all Gambian who try to oppose to the insanity of the charlatan of Banjul. In this July 22nd, 2011, anniversary of Gambian independence that the president calls cynically « the day of freedom », Amnesty International Mali, faithful to tradition, united quarantine journalists of the Malian press and several organizations and ONG struggling for the right human beings of whom AMDH, for a point of press on the situation of the right human beings in Gambia.
It is under the presidency of the Executive director d' Amnesty International Mali, mister Saloum TRAORE who had mister Salif FOFANA in his sides, Coordinateurmobilisation and campaigns, that the point of press was held. In her intervention, mister Saloum TRAORE represented disastrous situation of Gambian on the plan of the right human beings. « Instead of celebrating the day of freedom, Gambian authorities should take measures to stop acts of violence in the country », he will say.
Few people know who is really the president Yahya JAMMEH. In effect, the strong man of Banjul is taken for a messiah. So in this anniversary, he declared an international radio on antennesd': « The Only God will make me leave the head of Gambia ». Because it is taken for « the representative of God on earth, the president Yahya JAMMEH is persuaded to have the right of life and death on his compatriots », will add the Executive director. This opinion was supported by a documentary film where they could see the Gambian President, rosary in hand, murmur conjurations on the head of the sick been confined to bed in the hospital or making drink to others of the magical potions of her creation. It is probably this quackery which is at the root of blended respect for fear that the Gambian populations nourish regarding their president.
In this atmosphere of dread and suppression, the combatants of freedom are treated in a pitiless manner. In the document published by Amnesty International and delayed in the press, they can read that in November, 2009 « the ancient representatives of the government were accused of treason or try of destabilization in the government in power. In total, several hundred of ancient civil servants, servicemen and civilians were put in imprisonment. In their huge majority, they saw each other refusing right to consult a lawyer or to accept the visit of their family, and were subjected to conditions of imprisonment so hard as they resembled a degrading and inhuman, cruel treatment ».
If the regime of Yahya JAMMEH continues flouting the world, it is because of the guilty silence of the Africain countries, in the name of this famous clause of non-interference in the internal affairs of a Member State of OUA then UA. In spite of the presence of a reporter and a caméraman, ORTM remained dumb on Gambian situation. In the absence of a firm condemnation of the regime of Gambia, the charlatan of president has the frank cubits to terrorize his people. Gambia, which has only the single border and has oil, interests the potency of this world hardly. Dread can therefore beat down with impunity on the head of the Gambian. It is what makes say to mister Malick Kamian, representative of the AMDH, that it is necessary to intervene to help Gambian to get rid of JAMMEH.
The first victims of the slaughterous regime of Banjul are in most cases the journalists among whom the most famous is Ebrima MANNEH of the newspaper Daily Observer, disappeared since July 11th, 2006. More newly, it is the journalist N' Déye Taffa SOSSEH who has just been sentenced to death by default to have done its job, have made that to inform.
So Gambia goes. It is a duty for all those who struggle for the right human beings to give tongue so that the Gambian can go out of the chasm dug by a president megalomaniac and criminal *. As long as the Africain leaders will close eyes on acts of violence made beyond their borders in Africa and by their peers, they will always give opportunity to the Westerners to come with us to make reign order as it is case nowadays in Libya. After fifty years of independence, it's about time for the continent to go out of its torpor and to take its destiny in hand. It is in it only that we shall succeed in constructing new Africa where peace règnera.
