In a dramatic twist, the high court today, set free two military officers
detained by the Gambian authorities on charges of attempting to topple
president Jammeh's regime, sources from Banjul, announced. The two men
Lt.Lalo Jaiteh and Lt.Omar Darboe were asked to go home and reunite with
their families as the prosecution says they lacked sufficient evidence to
prosecute the former soldiers. High court judge Mahmmed Belgore passed the
verdict today, before a crowded court attended by relatives of the accused
persons. The coup suspects had been languishing in detention sine May 2000.

A decision is expected to be made on October 20th withregards to the fate of
momodou Dumo sarho and other, when the judge will issue a ruling on the no
case submission made by the defence team.
