10,000-man solidarity march for Jammeh Written by Chief Ebrima B Manneh Monday, 10 April 2006 Tens of thousands of Gambians are already warming up for a solidarity march slated for this Saturday to show their allegiance to President Yahya AJJ Jammeh in the wake of the March 21 abortive coup.
The march will start at Radio Syd on the outskirts of Banjul and proceed peacefully through Independence Drive right up to the 22 July Square, where President Jammeh is expected to address the marchers.

Speaking to the Daily Observer last Friday, Mr Yankuba Touray, the Secretary of State for Agriculture and APRC national mobilizer, said the 10,000 man solidarity march will not only show that Gambians are against the March 21 abortive coup, but it will also establish the fact that The Gambia is a mature democracy that other African countries can emulate.

He therefore called on all peace-loving Gambians and non- Gambians alike to fully participate in this noble solidarity, irrespective of political affiliations. He added that the event will be characterised by singing and cultural displays.

According to him, it is important that Gambians express their diapproval of any forceful regime change, as both the African Union and the Ecowas consider it an anathema.
