On Wednesday, 18th September 2002, The Point Newspaper wrote:
"The Gambia Government is to defend its poverty reduction programme in
Geneva these days before Donors at a Round Table Conference. The amount
sought is $ US 70m to cover the poverty reduction project as well as the
technical cooperation requirements."
Well folks, it seems that even the government under-estimated the goodwill
that was waiting for its delegation. Instead of the US $70 million that the
government wanted, donors have instead pledged the sum of over US $115
million.
