Thanx Ylva(Got your name right this time :-)) for forwarding this poating.
I guess with the Baba Jobe incident being in the spotlight, many people
have overlooked this one.

My heart and admiration go to these women who despite all threats went
ahead and demonstrated against domestic violence.

"since in these rural zones,
male domination is still the rule and the "law of silence" is the norm."

This is very true. Although there are men that experience domestic
violence, it's mostly women that suffer more because of; to quote from the
posting "male domination". Many people that suffer domestic violence have
been known to keep quiet about it because of a number of reasons like: Most
of the time it happens in places where there are no witnessse and people
think that others won't believe them when they come forward. Others are
just simply too ashamed to tell it to even close friends or families. Etc,
etc... These people have to realise that there are others out there who
would believe them. The "law of silence" has to be broken. The women of
Dialacoto has demonstrated the importance of this. Although I know that
they have a long way to go, this is one great step forward.

It's amazing how much we learn everyday in this world and we have a lot to
learn from these women from of Dialacoto

Once again thanx a lot for forwarding this mail. It always pleases me a lot
when I see women standing up and saying enough with domestic violence.
We'll not take it anymore. I hope they just don't stop with this
demonstration.

Isatou
