The sacked popular Mayor of the Kanifing Municipal Council Abdoulie Conteh, has been arrested and accused of having hands into Tuesday’s foiled coup, unimpeachable sources told the Freedom Newspaper. Conteh’s arrest followed a lead story ran by the Freedom Newspaper, indicating that he was placed under close security surveillance by The Gambian authorities. He was pursued by NIA plain cloth operatives within and outside his residence, this paper gathered.

FYE THE STATE HOUSE NEW PRESS DIRECTOR!!!
According to well placed sources, Conteh was picked up on Thursday and is currently helping investigators on the alleged incident, which sent former Army Chief of Staff Ndure Cham packing. Sources said one of the coup suspects Alpha Jallow, alias Leisure had a close ties with Conteh’s family and the investigators were trying to link Conteh to the alleged abortive coup.
It is reported that the investigators had a list of names of civilians to be called for questioning on the said coup, which is being doubted in many quarters here in the country. Sources close to the heart of the Jammeh, administration say the coup was premeditated by the authorities in a bid to frame these young soldiers and the civilian community. “There is no material evidence whatsoever to justify the arrests of these people. Besides, hear say, there is no credible evidence they could present to convict these alleged coupists.” said a highly placed source in Jammeh’s government.
The Freedom Newspaper also gathered that Lie Conteh, was harassed by the armed State Guard soldiers who came to arrest him. Since his sacking and subsequent expulsion from the Ruling APRC, Conteh was exposed to all kinds of persecution by the government he served for about eleven years, said a family member.
State House sources told this paper that the President was very upset upon on his arrival from Mauritania and was heard hauling insults that he will teach a drastic lesson to the alleged coupists. Our source hinted that the President also ordered that some of the state guards be transferred, pending the completion of the investigations. It is gathered that Jammeh had also decided to cancel future overseas trips until further notice. The President continued our sources lacked faith in the military and was suffering from what these sources called “crisis of confidence.“ The Freedom Newspaper, will keep its readers posted about developments. Stay tune. We are here to serve you and not any interest group.
