Bishop Cleary Retires
Rev Fr Ellison Steps In
Monday 27th February 2006

The Bishop of Banjul, His Lordship Michael J. Cleary (CSSP), has retired 
from the services of Bishop of Banjul, stated a press release issued by 
the Diocese of Banjul on Saturday.

According to the release, The Holy Father has accepted the resignation 
of Bishop Cleary and has replaced him with the Reverend Father Robert 
Patrick Ellison, (CSSP), General Secretary of the Congregation of the 
Holy Spirit, Rome.

The release stated that this action is in accordance with Cann.401/1 of 
the Code of Canon law.

Meanwhile, the Holy Father has appointed Bishop Michael J Cleary as 
Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Banjul till the day of the 
canonical possession of the See of Banjul by the Rev. Fr. Ellison, the 
statement concluded.
