*Young musicians aim for stardom*

Aug 8 2007

**

By Charlotte Francis

A HOSPITAL worker turned reggae singer-songwriter is hoping to hit the big
time with his up-and-coming band.

Bakary Bojang, 22, leads "dancehall" band the LMP Crew, but also finds time
to work at the town's Queen Victoria Hospital as a housekeeping supervisor.

The three-man combo, combining reggae, hip-hop and R'n'B styles, will hit
East Grinstead in September when they play a gig at the Ship Pub.

And the music video for their new single Shake That Booty is getting regular
showings on a cable TV channel.

Bakary, AKA B-Force, moved to London from Gambia in West Africa at 16, and
made his way to East Grinstead in December 2005.

He said: "It's a completely different world. In England, everyone seems to
move so fast, but in Africa things are more laid-back and they socialise
more.

"When I first came to East Grinstead, it was a bit difficult to settle in
but the people here are very friendly and easy to get along with.

"I come from a musical family and was always involved with music in Gambia.
I started writing music at a young age.

"My colleagues are very supportive and really looking forward to seeing me
perform."

Now living in Baggers Way, drummer and song-writer Bakary says he is looking
forward to showing off his band in more local venues.

Their gig coming up in the Ship Pub, Ship Street, on September 11, follows
shows in Germany, London and Brighton in August.

The other band members, Bonny and Escalate, are from St Lucia and Kenya
respectively, bringing a multi-national flavour to their music.

The diverse band got together through a mutual friend and haven't looked
back since.

The video to Shake That Booty is one of the top-rated for its musical genre
on cable music channel Channel U. To request it, text 542 to 81700.
