Kabirr:

Pre-Independence politics in The Gambia, unfortunately, attracted scant
attention from historians or political scientists and, as a result, Pa
Edward Francis Small's enormous contributions to Gambian political life are
not very well documented. As far as I know, the only important sources (on
Pa Edward Francis Small) are Dr Jabez Ayo Langley's book, "Pan-Africanism
and Nationalism in West Africa: 1900-1945", and Dr David Perfect's Ph.D
Thesis, "Organised Labour and Politics in The Gambia, 1920-1984".

A third source would be the book, edited by Professor Arnold Hughes,
entitled "The Gambia: Studies in Society and Politics". This book has a very
detailed chapter on the political career of Edward Francis Small, written by
Dr David Perfect. Another useful source is the "African Affairs" Journal -
88: 549-72. In it, there is a very useful piece, captioned "Trade Unionism
in The Gambia", by Arnold Hughes and David Perfect. But, up to now, the two
main sources for/on Edward Francis Small remain Dr Langley who discusses
politics in The Gambia in the 1920s in his book cited above, and Dr David
Perfect's 1987 Ph.D Thesis.

Anyway, if you send me your postal address privately, I can send you
photocopies of these materials.

Regards,
Ebrima

PS: By the way, let's hope that the FA cup is going to be won by Arsenal
tommorow. I am glad that Dennis Bergkamp has passed his fitness test, and
the question now is, who partners Thierry Henry in the attack? Would it be
Dennis Bergkamp, Sylvian Wiltord or Kanu?
