Western Division to celebrate independence at Sibanor The regional celebrations of The Gambia's 35th independence anniversary, Friday, February 18, for Western Division, will be held in Sibanor, the biggest settlement in Foni. A spokesperson of the Divisional Coordinating Committee (DCC) said the move to celebrate this year's independence anniversary in Sibanor, Foni Bintang District, was necessitated by the government's recent efforts towards decentralisation. The celebrations, the first of its kind to be held outside the division's administrative capital of Brikama, is expected to be attended by the commissioner of Western Division, Kebba Ceesay, seyfolu, local dignitaries, students and pupils from schools in the division. Speaking to Daily Observer, yesterday, Commissioner Ceesay said arrangements have been made by the DCC to take students from towns and villages in the division to Sibanor. "Without the school children, the occasion will be without colour," he added. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe/subscribe or view archives of postings, go to the Gambia-L Web interface at: http://maelstrom.stjohns.edu/archives/gambia-l.html ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
