Now that the search for those Gambian Pioneers in America seems to be abated
and I was wondering whether List members could help in answering these two
questions:
1.) Who was the first Gambian ON RECORD to have gone VOLUNTARILY to America
and when was that?
(Note: It is well known that a slave must have been the first Gambia. By the
word VOLUNTARILY, I mean to have paid a passage to cross the Atlantic.)
Clue: Why are there so many Gambians in Georgia?
The Second question is more a conjecture; there is no concrete proof to it
like the first question. As History told us, there were 4 major slave
insurrections and plots in U.S. history led by: Gabriel Prosser, Denmark
Vesey,
Nat Turner and "The first white man to have lost his life for the
freedom of the black people"(Malcolm X), John Brown. It is amazing how many
of us were singing "John Brown's body" at school without knowing, who the
hell, he was.
2.) What were the names of the two "supposed" Gambians who were among the
ringleaders in Denmark Vesey's conspiracy?

These two questions are merely to find out how much we Gambians know about
ourselves in the history of other nations.

I will give the answers on my BIRTHDAY, Thursday 24/02/2000, but I would
first want to see your answers.
