Guinea-Bissau Muslims Fail To Go For Hajj

BISSUA, Guinea-Bissau (PANA) - Some 344 Muslims from Guinea-Bissau failed to go on this year's pilgrimage to Mecca for undisclosed last minute hitches.

The Muslims had paid the local BAIO travel agency 1.2 million CFA francs each to handle the trip but the company is yet to issue any explanations over the flopped journey.

Managers of the company have reportedly gone into hiding as the angry would-be pilgrims mount demands for their money.

An official from the agency, who travelled to Dakar to obtain visas at the Saudi embassy for the Muslims, has still not returned to Bissau and is said to be in possession of their passports.

Authorities in Guinea-Bissau have not reacted to the situation, the first ever since the country became independent in 1974.
