The Banjul Magistrates Court last week ordered the police to keep six officers of the Brikama Fire and Ambulance Services in remand until they are arraigned before the High Court..

The six officers were arrested in connection with the death of Ebrima Barry, a student of Foster's Senior Secondary School, Brikama. Ebrima was allegedly assaulted leading to his death, by officers of the Brikama fire services.

The six officers were Amadou Badjie, Kebba Conteh, Momodou Colley, Alhaji E Secka, Ousman Myolleh and Saba Sawo. They were charged with murder by the police on Wednesday, March 29. They appeared before the Banjul Magistrates Court on March 30.

When the charge was read to them, they all pleaded not guilty. However, colleagues of the accused officers have expressed concern over their plight. "Such cases can be pending for three to four years while thesuspects continue to languish in custody," one officer remarked.

If found guilty, the officers could get a death sentence or go to jail for life.
