It is a rather unknown country and not many know of what is going on there, although Mauretania is recognized as one of the few countries where slavery still exists. The military forces ruled from 1978 and in 1992 tranformed themselves into the present governing party, PRDS. The state is also said to support both racism and classical slavery. This manifests itself in violent ethnic conflict, gross human rights violations and shifting alliances in search of cultural identity and mentors. Mauretania has also one of the worlds largest external debts and has a very low educational level. Garba Diallo of Mauretanian origin, works as the Director of International Programmes at the International People´s College in Denmark. Mr Diallo will give us an overview over these serious issues and also show parts of a video from Mauretania. Kaaw Touré, who is the Press Secretary of the liberation force, FLAM, will also make comments on the situation. Chairperson: Lennart Wohlgemuth Date and time: Thursday, April 13th, at 18.00. Location: Sidas hörsal, Sveavägen 20 (T-bana Hötorget) Welcome!
