Gambia-L:

Well, I know my buddy Matarr is just expressing his sense of frustration with the APRC regime, for he is well aware that violence only begets violence. I have once said and still maintain that respect is mutual. As President Jammeh doesn't seem to respect the opinions of the Gambian people then the only alternative is to disrespect him and his government in turn. How? Total and absolute civil disobedience. Farmers can refuse to pay taxes; civil servants can organize stay-aways; peaceful demonstrations can be organized, in short a total refusal to service a government whose agents and supporters are intimidating, harassing, and killing innocent Gambians just for holding different political opinions.

For some time now, students have been at the helm of the struggle to free The Gambia of this canker. Where are the labor unions? What other strategies, apart from the usual condemnation, are the political parties adopting? The violent incidents in Gambissara and Basse are serious pointers of the APRC's determination to stay in power. The opposition parties should adopt a concerted action of nation-wide civil disobedience to paralyse the government. Any violent forms of redress will take us all into the abyss of death and destruction. Let's save The Gambia this trauma.

Hamadi.
