The successful applicant will be responsible for a range of development and linking activities requiring good leadership and organisational skills as well as the ability to relate to people from a wide range of backgrounds. Trust Agency for Rural Development (TARUD): TARUD is a local NGO based in the coastal village of Gunjur, Kombo South which was established through the framework of a link between the Marlborough Brandt Group (MBG), a charity from the town of Marlborough in the UK, and the community of Gunjur through the Gunjur Link Committee (GLC), initiated in 1982. The link between the towns of Marlborough and Gunjur was set up to promote understanding between the peoples of the United Kingdom and the Gambia. In 1998 TARUD was registered as a Gambian NGO under the direction of a local board of trustees and a programme director and took on the direction of the growing number of development projects. MBG remains the primary donor and a partner of TARUD. General description of the position: The Programme Director, under the policy direction of the trustees, will be responsible for the administration and management of TARUD which implements projects including micro-finance, adult literacy, water and sanitation, education, and skills training. Special importance will need to be accorded to the continued support of community linking activities. This will include the implementation and development of TARUD's strategic plan with special emphasis given to the development of fund-raising initiatives, and the cultivation of partnerships with other organisations. The Programme Director will be the employee of MBG but will be jointly responsible to TARUD and MBG in accordance with their partnership agreement. The duty station is in Gunjur where TARUD has a building housing 6 offices, a conference room, a workroom, and a reception area. This building is equipped with electricity supplied by a 5KVA generator, computers, fax, photocopiers, and various other office and presentation equipment. He/she will have strong resource planning and staff management skills, and show good understanding and commitment to issues of gender, sustainability and participation.
