At the Texas Democratic State Convention held in Fort Worth, Texas on June 9-10, 2000, Muslims made political history. Five (5) Muslim Americans were elected to the Democratic National Convention. For the first time in history, a Muslim-American Woman was elected to a National Convention. In addition, we also won a key State Committee position and elected an officer of a major Senatorial District. THESE VICTORIES ARE HISTORIC. The results are as follows: Selma F. Nationwide there will be more than 4300 delegates to the Democratic National Convention. Delegates represent the sole voting authority in nominating the Democratic presidential candidate and the Democratic party platform.
