Africa Competitiveness Report 2000-2001 The World Economic Forum would like to take this opportunity to thank its Africa Competitiveness Report 2000-2001 Supporters for their generosity and support. The first Report, launched in 1998, was received worldwide (and particularly in Africa) as a most useful tool since it measures the competitiveness of African nations not only among themselves but also in relation to other promising emerging markets. Based on the same methodology developed over the past 20 years for our widely acclaimed Global Competitiveness Report, the Africa Competitiveness Report (ACR) is a singular source of information and analysis based on the collection of opinion surveys and hard data. This results in a totally unique document which is of great use to both local and foreign investors who wish to gain more information on the opportunities and changes taking place in Africa. Perhaps even more importantly, the ACR has become a reference point in many African nations when it comes to promoting public/private sector dialogue on creating national environments conducive to attracting foreign investment. In order to maintain the momentum the World Economic Forum and the Center for International Development (CID) at Harvard University held discussions with numerous African political and business leaders on the occasion of our 1999 Annual Meeting in Davos. It became apparent that the first ACR launched a process of African debate on key economic and competitiveness issues which should be continued. As such we are engaged in the production of a second Report which will be launched at our Southern Africa Economic Summit 2000. The Africa Competitiveness Report 2000-2001 is now available at Oxford University Press. The next Africa Competitiveness Report will outline and analyze economic conditions in the following 31 countries: Algeria Angola Botswana Burkina Faso Cameroon Côte d'Ivoire Democratic Republic of Congo Egypt Ethiopia Gabon Ghana Kenya Lesotho Madagascar Malawi Mali Mauritius Morocco Mozambique Namibia Nigeria Senegal Seychelles South Africa Swaziland Tanzania Tunisia Uganda Zambia Zimbabwe hkanteh ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe/subscribe or view archives of postings, go to the Gambia-L Web interface at: http://maelstrom.stjohns.edu/archives/gambia-l.html ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
