Ebrima, I've never paid much attention to the notion that Ousman Jammeh- Coroner, backs this govt. I've heard of him for years, and I finally met the gentleman just last October/November when he stopped at a friend's place in Baltimore from a one year stint in the West Indies. He had spent a few days with a cousin of mine in Madison, Wisconsin on that same trip. Given the guy's intelligence, and level-headed nature, his acceptance of a cabinet spot would be the biggest surprise of the year for me. Ousman isn't the type who easily falls for clap-trap. To buttress this point, many Gambians may recall the case of some Brikama people V. the former PPP govt regarding (paying for) water supply. As magistrate, Ousman sided with the people. And he did that a few times around the country. As a matter of fact, he irked the erstwhile PPP govt so much that he had a problem getting land for a compound. And when he finally found one, he could "lease" it up to the end of the PPP era. Just ask around. So, frankly, the man has absolutely nothing in common with Yaya Jammeh. But The Gambia today is a very strange place indeed, and even stranger things are happening there. Dr. Nyang told me sometime ago that he "doen't know what happens to smart people when they go back to Africa." He was referring to some friends of his, who are very accomplished, and yet they started behaving exactly like the PPP people as soon as they got to Gambia. Could Ousman be such a case? But for those who have the time to join me in exerting indirect pressure on the guy to maintain his integrity, here are a few tips: Ousman is married to Fatu Marenah (Latri-Kunda Nyiringa-nya.) He's very close to that family, and the family patriach Mr. Marenah (a retired medical officer,) will be a good starting point. I know many members of that family, and I cannot imagine anything that will bring them bigger embarrassment than Ousman sitting in that criminal cabinet. Also, Ousman has a very close friend in Oslo, Yankuba Saidykhan from Bakau. I've misplaced the guy's phone number, and for the life of me, I can't remember it. But, Bakau people around that end may be able to help. I'll talk to his friends here (NYC, Baltimore, Madison - WI) and his wife's sister in Dallas. I know for a fact that ALL these people are dead set against this rogue govt. Unlike Ebrima's source, I don't think it's a lost battle. I'm still hopeful that Ousman will be able to resist the temptation of selling his soul to the devil. He resisted the PPP's overtures. Why succumb to a worse breed especially when "Time's Up!" is clearly written on the wall?
