In a very basic sense, yes.Terrorism is a phenomenon that is easier to describe than define. It is the unlawful use or threat of violence against persons or property to further political or social objectives. It is generally intended to intimidate or coerce a government, individuals or groups to modify their behavior or policies. All terrorism can be violence such as murder, theft, kidnapping, extortion and so on.Any person or group willing to commit a crime to back up its political [or religions]position as it has being happening in The Gambia can be call terrorist. This includes governments which use policies of terror to subjugate the public,or by revolutionaries who use tactics of terror to attack the establishment. Not infrequently, the same people get to exercise both forms of terrorism, first using it to bring down an existing government or win power from a reluctant populace, then forming a new government which continues to use terror against its citizens in order to maintain itself. This is exactly what Hitler did, using the terroristic Brown Shirts to topple the Weimar regime, then creating the SS terror network to maintain the power of the National Socialist government. Dictators and totalitarian governments,as terrorists from above, arrogate unto themselves a monopoly on the possession of arms thugs and the use of force. The Jammeh Government owns terrorism, and his 22nd state sponsored terrorist movement is a clear indication is why political violence cannot be taboo or ruthlessly suppressed in the country. Through my studies,i know the some reasons why a state sponsor terrorism or support the use of such groups. Some states may choose to engage in terrorist violence in the context of activities such as national insurgency, especially when they are losing a political battle or a conflict,to try to create a special effect, embarrass opposing leadership,or change the pace of events. This is most likely the case in the Gambia and what so far has been seen is just the beginning. The most deadly terrorists continue to operate in and from the Middle East.Around 1995 they were involved in roughly 50 percent of total worldwide terrorist incidents. The countries notorious of abating and supporting terrorist activities are Syria,Libya,Iran,Lebanon and Sudan. Considering all the above concerns,The Gambia Government should be aware that such activities are unacceptable to this peaceful nation. Meanwhile,i will call on the African commission on Human and peoples'Rights in The Gambia to join in the investigation on the recent attack because a thief cannot catch a thief. The Government adducted and tortured Momodou Single Nyassi and promised to investigate but is over a year now nothing has been heard. And also we are still waiting for the investigation of the torture of the following people:Wassa Janneh,Dodou Sanyang,Dembo Ara sanneh,Bolong Sanneh,Yusupha Cham,Ansumana Bojang and Sarjo Kunjang Sanneh. Democracy must be fully restored. We will not be carry by a cheap propaganda by tell us that Government will investigate it. Where is the Ousman Koro Ceesay'investigation? Where is the students massacre's investigation?Where is Babanding Sissoko's Gambia diplomatic passport and who once lived in a state house like a state man? The truth shall prevail. saihou ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe/subscribe or view archives of postings, go to the Gambia-L Web interface at: http://maelstrom.stjohns.edu/archives/gambia-l.html You may also send subscription requests to [log in to unmask] if you have problems accessing the web interface ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
