I heard this joke about the Bush and Gore debate on a nationally syndicated radio show as follows: How would you describe the two participants? "Well," the announcer says, "one looked like a confident guy who knew the issues and the other had the facial expression of a squirrel caught between the glare of a car's headlights." I guess that sums up the debate. But, on a more serious note, I believe that George "Doubleya" Bush might pip Al Gore at the finish line. Americans on the whole seem to be fed up with the usual same old DC politicians (Gore) that talk about the budget, numbers, deficits, environment blah, blah. To be honest, most of them don't even have a clue about those numbers and politics. The fact that Gore lies so much does not help his case either. He seems to have been adversely affected in this regard. All America wants is a simple down-to-earth, honest and uncomplicated man for president. George "DoubleYa" seems to fit that bill perfectly. In fact, in a poll right after the last debate, Gore held a slight margin on overall performance. But when asked who they would rather have a beer with, Bush was by far the more likeable guy. The statistics still show that Bush holds a slight edge and sadly in the end Gore's lack of charisma might come to bite him in the proverbial butt. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe/subscribe or view archives of postings, go to the Gambia-L Web interface at: http://maelstrom.stjohns.edu/archives/gambia-l.html You may also send subscription requests to [log in to unmask] if you have problems accessing the web interface and remember to write your full name and e-mail address. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
